Anxiety is a psychological disorder that is experienced by many people. Around 1.1 billion people in the world experience psychological disorders in the form of anxiety, and WHO reports the most psychological disorder is anxiety. It shows that anxiety requires treatment from health workers. Several interventions have been carried out to overcome anxiety, ranging from psychological interventions to the provision of chemical drugs. One intervention that can be given to patients is the emotional freedom technique (EFT).

EFT is a meridian-based psychological therapy that alleviates psychological and psychosomatic conditions. EFT is the stimulation of beats at specific meridian points. EFT combines the benefits of cognitive reprocessing from exposure and acceptance therapy with the release of energetic disorders associated with acupuncture and other so-called energy therapies.

A review of articles that met the inclusion criteria concluded that EFT could reduce depression, anxiety, stress, reduce blood cortisol levels, and improve quality of life. The review also concluded that EFT reduced somatic symptoms such as insomnia and social dysfunction. Immunologically, EFT can increase lymphocyte proliferation. This proliferation is related to increased immunity and has a vital role in the host’s defense against infection which has an essential role in controlling the body’s immune and inflammatory reactions.

EFT can be done individually or in groups, and it can be applied in health services or is carried out independently by licensed or unlicensed practitioners. (*)
