UNAIR NEWS – The Surabaya City Police Chief, Police Senior Commissioner (Kombes Pol) Sandi Nugroho accompanied by Dirpolair East Java Police Force, Police Commissioner Arnapi, SH., SIK., M.Hum  used this moment of Ramadan to visit Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. The visit was warmly welcomed by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh. Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA.

The visit was intended to strengthen the kinship that had been previously established. He is being promoted as 2nd Level General Crime Investigator, National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim). Moreover, his visit to UNAIR was also to conduct an evaluation on Kampung Tangguh (Resilient urban communities) in Surabaya, involving the role of academics in handling COVID-19 issues.

“Kampung Tangguh was formed to increase efforts to prevent the Covid-19 chain, given the growing number of positive patients in Surabaya,” he said.

Resilient urban communities in Surabaya and Malang adopted a similar method in Bali Province. The Provincial Government of Bali uses the concept of policing community so that people are accustomed to implementing health protocols.

Sandi Nugroho said there are six resilient urban communities to be implemented in Rungkut, Wonokromo, Sawahan and Tegalsari areas. UNAIR academics are expected to give solutions on COVID-19 handling issues.

“Our current theme is pro-active or problem solving policing in Surabaya based on community independence to tackle COVID-19 in Surabaya, especially in their respective areas,” he said.

Kampung Tangguh emphasizes community participation at neighborhood level as verifiers or assessors and supervisors in the distribution of social aid so they are given to the right people and can implement health protocols in their daily activities.
