UNAIR NEWS –FKM Alumni Association Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR)  in several countries discussed Covid-19 Pandemic’, they gave recommendations regarding the handling of  Covid-19 in Indonesia. Estiningtyas N., S.KM., M.Kes. Head of IKA FKM UNAIR Commissariat and moderator explained some of the recommendations.

“One of the recommendations in handling COVID-19 is the wider community and stakeholders associated with Covid19,” she said.

PSBB implementation

The key to Implementing Large-scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) measures is for all parties to be disciplined. Some countries have implemented fines and sanctions (law enforcement), both material and social.

Currently, the country applies physical sanctions (in the form of push-ups). Besides that, the government also takes action in regulating administrative sanctions. The government has set the issue of PSBB (Large-scale Social Restrictions).

“A strict implementation accompanied by law enforcement is the right choice for now,” she said.

Social Participation and Support

Community social participation during the pandemic continues to be improved. Moreover, the community empowerment at the lower level (RT / RW) is needed because they are the ones who understand the social and economic conditions.

Social and economic support from the government for the affected communities of COVID-19 is essential. For this reason, it needs to be well regulated with discipline community involvement.

The support from corporate and community must be adequately managed for the benefit of the community, with the four fundamental principles:  transparency, participation, and accountability as the main elements of good governance.

Health Literacy

Stigmatization is a problem in handling Covid-19; thus, we need to increase public health literacy to people at all levels. For this purpose, both central and regional governments can partner up with health education institutions to mobilize millions of students to socialize the virus on social media with anti-stigma memes and other support.

“The health student activities and movements can be the education assessment,” she explained.

Contact Tracing Enforcement

The enforcement of contact tracing is an essential element in handling Covid-19. Every local government is required to have data and contact information firmly. Therefore, access, health insurance, and security of tracing officers (surveillance) must be guaranteed so they can carry out their duties optimally.

“The results can be the basis of Covid-19’s handling policy and is utilized as much as possible to increase the vigilance of the government and community,” she explained.

Besides, the role of health center as community health mobilization in its working area (sub-district, red) must be further enhanced from the promotion and prevention aspects of COVID-19. Promotion and prevention are the primary roles. (*)
