Communities and Bank Mandiri distributes humanitarian aids for  COVID-19

UNAIR NEWS – Several communities continue to work together in facing COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. One of them is by fulfilling needs through the assistance of Covid-19 patients. Bearing in mind, UNAIR through Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) and Institute of Tropical Research (ITD) is the front guards in examining COVID-19 test in East Java region.

A total of Rp 167,600,989 for handling COVID-19 from the community and Bank Mandiri were received again by UNAIR on Tuesday afternoon, April 14. The donation was received directly by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., In Balairua Hall, 4th Floor, Campus C Management Office, accompanied by UNAIR Academic Senate Chairperson Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., Ph.D., FINASIM, and several leaders.

Furthermore, 146 items of PPE (Personal protective equipment) worth Rp. 52,600,989 came from various communities, 100 million PPE assistance, and 15 million disinfecting booths came from Bank Mandiri.

Representing the community, Arif Affandi conveyed that the assistance was a form of community awareness and efforts to collaborate in handling Covid-19. UNAIR through RSUA has become one of the frontlines in handling Covid-19 in Surabaya, East Java, and surrounding areas.

“There are several group communities involved here such as bicycle community in Surabaya, online media portals, event organizers, and Kagama, “he said.

Arif explained that the donation came from Kagama (Gadjah Mada University Alumni Family), Otak-Otak (Event-Communication), ngopibareng.com (online news portal), and the bicycle community in Surabaya. Namely, Freedom Bike Community, Free Bike, SRBC (Surabaya Road Bike Community), SCC (Strattos Cycling Club), and Rukun Makmur Bike Shop.

“We hope that it can help and provide support to fellow health professionals who are at the forefront of handling COVID-19. Especially in RSUA, “he said.

Arif elaborated, there were 21 box masks, 70 packs of cover all, 50 packs of hazmat suits, 40 packs of goggle glasses, 40 packs of face shields, 31 boxes of hand gloves (short), and 10 boxes of hand gloves. Besides, 40 surgical cap boxes, 30 hand sanitizer gel bottles / 500 ml, hand sanitizer gel bottles / 250 ml, 10 jerry cans / 5 liters, 50 shoe cover packs, and 14 jerry cans/liter hand soap refills.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nasih stated that the pandemic should not be considered an individual problem. Synergy and collaboration from all parties are needed in the fight against the disease.

“We express our gratitude for the contributions from all parties, “he said.

Prof. Nasih hopes that this pandemic, which requires social distance, does not contribute to the gap in solidarity. All parties must work together to work together and help each other.

“Hopefully, it strengthens solidarity among us to fight and face COVID-19,” he said. (*)
