East Java Governor inspects ITD after appointed by administration to conduct coronavirus test

UNAIR NEWS – After the appointment of Universitas Airlangga as a place for coronavirus test by President Joko Widodo, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa visited Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Saturday, March 14, 2020. The visit was made to observe Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) and Special Hospital for Infection (RSKI).

Opening the press conference, UNAIR Rector Prof. Mohammad Nasih said that there were many research activities related to the virus been carried out by UNAIR. Indonesian President Joko Widodo trusted UNAIR, in this case ITD, to conduct a direct test of the coronavirus.

On that occasion, Khofifah said she is proud of ITD UNAIR as it is one of the three institutions given authority by the administration to examine coronavirus.

“ITD is one of the three points designated to conduct the coronavirus test. As we come here, we are serious and united to show vigilance, “said Khofifah.

As the number one person in East Java, she urged various agencies to raise vigilance and make comprehensive anticipations. Both in educational institution, office services, tourism, and other public places.

She urged hand washing facilities, adequate masks, and hand sanitizers are provided in public places.

Corona Virus Examination by UNAIR

Head of ITD Prof. Maria Lucia Inge Lusida dr., M.Kes., Ph.D., said that until now ITD has examined 65 samples. She said she would continue to report the test update to the Ministry of Health.

Initial examination of coronavirus was carried out at UNAIR Hospital. In this regard, UNAIR Hospital Director Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, Sp.PD., KPTI-FINASIM said that UNAIR Hospital is ready to anticipate the presence of coronavirus in East Java.

He explained that UNAIR Hospital will conduct a screening process in advance for people who were going to do the coronavirus test. The screening test is carried out beside the emergency room so it could be optimal.

From the screening process, the person will be categorized as person under monitoring (ODP) or patient under surveillance (PDP) through photos of the lungs that have been made. If pneumonia is found, then the patient must enter observation. Furthermore, the patient in the PDP category is taken to isolation room at UNAIR Hospital for further examination.

He added, the existing isolation room is up to international standards, equipped with respirator equipment or breathing aids.

“Today, 20 people came voluntarily to UNAIR Hospital for coronavirus test. It shows that public awareness on their own health is increasing, “he said.

“The panic occurs because people do not understand. Calmness and resilience can prevent coronavirus from entering the body, “he added.

Several parties were also present during the visit, such as Pangdam V Brawijaya, Pangarmada II TNI AL, Danlanud TNI AU, DM HSSE Pelindo 3 East Java Regional, GM Angkasa Pura, Head of Juanda Airport Authority, Tanjung Perak KSU, DAOP VIII Health Manager PT KAI Surabaya, Regional Secretary Prov.
