UNAIR NEWS – Internationalization program continues to be improved by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). One of them is by maintaining cooperation with partner universities abroad. From this collaboration, UNAIR can get various benefits. One of the excellent activities for students is International community service (ICS) program.

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) has carried out these activities for three periods in Indonesia by inviting students from partner universities from abroad. In the fourth period, the activity was carried out at the Management & Science University (MSU) in Malaysia, with 17 students from Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) attended from February 2 to February 11, 2020.

Vice Dean III of FST Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah said that the activity was inspired by the International community service activity held by FST UNAIR with participation of local and international students.

“The purpose of international community services in addition to replacing KKN for UNAIR students is to broaden their horizons, improve their English language skills, and add colleagues from different universities, from around the world,” she said.

The activities carried out by the MSU Faculty of Information System and Engineering (FISE) include “My Blue Forest Initiative 2.0″, in the form of planting and breeding mangroves on Ketam Island. Secondly, “Urban Poor Community” carried out at PRR Kampung Baru Hicom, with two activities, Creating A Better Smile educational activities for young children about personal hygiene, and Smart Study Skills about learning methods that are fun, effective and efficient, using the mind mapping method. There were also Python for Image Processing Short Course learning activities and industry visits.

These activities are expected to be maintained sustainably by developing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, both for lecturers and students. They do not only study on campus, but also implement knowledge in the community after graduation.

“But in the process they (students, ed) must learn how they communicate with the community, and that is not really easy,” she concluded. (*)
