Pawon Tesi, FKM students’ program to overcome hypertension problems

UNAIR NEWS – Students’ Field Work Practice (PKL) Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held Anti Hypertension Kitchen Session (Pawon Tesi) activity on Thursday, January 23, 2020. The program was implemented as an effort to overcome health problems in Donan Village, especially the problem of hypertension.

The activity was started with a counseling related to hypertension by Novi Lestari or Novi. Then, there was also a counseling related to the management of hygienic food by Belinda Kirananingtyas or Belinda.

“To prevent hypertension, there are several tips that can be done, such as doing physical activity, reducing smoking, avoiding stress, and reducing salt,” Novi said.

In response to Novi’s explanation, Belinda added that there are several menus that are recommended for people with hypertension, boiled bananas, sauteed chayote, corn spinach, cucumber ice, celery tea.

Furthermore, Belinda also explained that cleanliness needs should be considered in food management. Some things that need to be done in managing hygienic food include washing hands with soap before cooking and covering the food on the table.

“Before cooking we need to wash our hands and use soap. One of the goals is to prevent diarrhea, ” she explained.

After the counseling, the activity was continued with cooking demonstrations. The menu chosen for the cooking demonstration was celery tea, cucumber ice, and sauteed chayote. The demonstration was conducted by Fransiska Pangesti A and Innaha Ilma W. (*)
