UNAIR NEWS – “Being a leader is not about power, popularity nor glory but being a leader is a responsibility in carrying out the tasks given during office, “said Ignasius Jonan, former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
The statement started the motivation sharing on leadership taking place at Dialoog Hotel on Monday, January 27, 2020. According to him, persistence must be possessed by a leader because there is nothing in this world can replace it, even talent, education, or intelligence.
“Persistence and determination are the important points of a leader,” he said.
He hoped that all the work meeting participants can give leadership education for their successors and subordinates. So that the next generation can emulate the previous leadership. He also made an analogy that 100 dogs led by a tiger will attack like a tiger.
“If you want to be successful, prepare your friends or subordinates to become leaders who will replace you, not just become followers,” he said.
So far, the culture of choosing leaders in Indonesia is not because they have qualified competence, but on the basis of compliance with previous leaders. So the leader here must work hard because there is no success without hard work. In addition, the leader must have the knowledge and the source of knowledge itself is his experience.
“We must be able to change our mindset to get the wider view,” he added.
“If you are a leader who can inspire others to dream higher, learn more, do something better and produce successful leaders, then you are a leader,” he said.
The FEB UNAIR alumni also motivated the leaderships in the meeting to make UNAIR achieve Top 100 World. It is a motivation for human resources and facilities at UNAIR to be improved and not to be carried away with the achievements previously achieved.
