PKL activities during semester break, FKM students give socialization

UNAIR NEWS – Field Work Practices (PKL) at Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have been held for 35 days in Bojonegoro. During semester break, PKL group conducted extension activities on Monday, January 3 in Donan Village.

There were two counselling that was carried out on that day, and the first counselling is related to diabetes mellitus (DM) in Puskesmas Purwosari during prolanis (Chronic Disease Management Program) activities. The second counselling is related to stunting in the village health center.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) counseling was conducted by six students. Namely, Salsabila (Bella), Yumna Nur Millati Hanifa, Belinda Kirananingtyas, Salsabila (Bella), Tamaamah Habibah, Ayu Astiria Maya A, and Tina Mei Wijayanti.

“Common symptoms include frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, extreme hunger, sudden vision changes, tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, sores that are slow to heal, “Bella explained.

Furthermore, students also participated as gymnastics instructors, and they also measured height and weight for the community in Donan village.

The counselling related to stunting was carried out by eight students. Namely, Innaha Ilma Wardaya (Ilma), Adnan Shaubilhaq I. K, Annisa Aurelia, Hasnur Salsabila, Novi Lestari, Dewa Ayu Dewi P. S, Fransiska Pangesti A, and Galuh Mega Kurnia.

“Stunting has several causes, such as the lack of mother’s knowledge, children nutrition, limited services: Ante Natal Care (ANC), and clean water and sanitation access, “Ilma explained.

Besides, students also helped by checking infants and toddlers weight and height. (*)
