UNAIR NEWS – People doesn’t know that Cyperus rotundus l Root (Rumput Teki) has great health benefits. Therefore, Dr.Titiek Berniyanti drg., M. Kes and the team conducted research of Cyperus rotundus L. It is widely used by local people of Central Kalimantan, which is useful as a treatment. Such as toothaches, swollen gums from canker sores and accelerate blood clotting in new wounds.

“By taking the root from the plant and then boiling it and the cooking water is used as a mouthwash, or by applying leaves that have been pounded until smooth in the wound area,” she said.

Cyperus rotundus L. Root is one of the plants that grow wild in open space or is slightly protected from sunlight, on bare ground, roadside or on agricultural land. It also contains active compounds that can be used to stimulate biochemical reactions that affect wound healing.

“Almost everyone has had an injury to the oral mucosa due to trauma, and there is no significant difference between men and women. Damage due to trauma to the oral mucosa can occur on the lips, folds of gums, gums, soft tissues of the oral cavity and the floor of the mouth, but most commonly in soft tissues of the oral cavity, “he explained.

This study is the answer of a prolonged crisis that resulted in a decrease in people’s purchasing power of medicinal plants. It is the right alternative as traditional medicine.

“Traditional medicine has several advantages, one of which has relatively low side effects, “he said.

The results of the research proved that Cyperus rotundus L. Root gel extract with a concentration of 4% could accelerate the healing of traumatic mucous ulcers in the oral cavity of Wistar rats. It contains tannin as much as 57.88% and steroids 39.25%.
