UNAIR NEWS – Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) is a supporting unit at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) which initiates, facilitates, and organizes international partnerships and networks. AGE also manages affairs with foreign academics.

AGE organizes international programs every year in collaboration with agencies and related parties. This year, AGE is holding a Summer Program related to marine conservation titled AirVenture 2019.

AirVenture 2019, held from December 2 to 11, was conducted in 3 cities, Surabaya, Banyuwangi and Bali. For 3 days, 19 international students learned more about the conservation of marine life.

On Saturday, December 7, AirVenture 2019 visited Banyuwangi at Off Main Campus Program (PSDKU) Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi. The participants were welcomed by a public lecture from Dr. Thorr Kerr, PhD, BA (Hons), B.Bus a lecturer from Curtin University, Australia.

The public lecture was also attended by 15 students of Faculty of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (FPK) PSDKU UNAIR, and Irfan Wahyudi, Ph.D the head of AGE’s international program division. Irfan said that the outcome to be achieved from the implementation of AirVenture 2019 is to look further into the marine bioorganism conservation, to have discussions with international students about the conservation conducted in Surabaya, Banyuwangi and Bali.

“The cities were chosen because of their characteristics which are surrounded by water and processing industry. So there can be interesting discussions between the authorities and international students participating in AirVenture 2019, “explained Irfan.

There was great enthusiasm shown by FPK PSDKU students with this public lecture for AirVenture 2019. It was seen from many questions given to the speaker by comparing the conditions of Banyuwangi area in particular with the results of research conducted by Dr. Thorr Kerr.

“I am very grateful to PSDKU UNAIR in Banyuwangi who collaborated well for the 2019 AirVenture. Hopefully in the future, the AirVenture program will be held regularly so it will involve many students, agencies and related parties,” hoped Irfan.
