UNAIR NEWS – Every human life is never free from trials. It certainly makes some people feel their lives are no longer have meaning. But for Nadya Valerie, S.H., M.Kn, a trial of life has made her a figure that inspires many people.

Nadya Valerie S.H., M.Kn is a 23-year-old woman who is fighting cancer. When invited to be one of the speakers at National Health Day Seminar on Sunday, November 3, 2019, the woman known as Nana shared her inspirational story with participants who were attending the seminar.

In her current situation, Nana was able to show that she could still excel in academics. Evidently, when she graduated in September, Nana became the third best graduate from Notary Master’s program, Faculty of Law (UNAIR).

She acknowledged that her illness has limited her activities. It is different from when the body is in good health, the activities can be more varied and there is more productivity.

“I can say that when I’m healthy, I’m much more productive, when I’m sick there are many things I have to sacrifice. For example, before I was sick I worked in an office, now I can’t work in an office anymore, ” she said when she was in Zoom Hotel Dharmahusada Surabaya.

Not only sharing about the journey of her life, she also gave tips to be a positive-thinking human being in a state of illness. According to her, there are two important things, positive thoughts to accept and fight.

Nana said that it was not easy to accept the bitter truth in her life. But by accepting what happens, we (humans, ed) can move on to the next stage of life.

“We won’t be able to move on to the next step if we can’t accept our situation first,” she said.

It is not enough to accept the situation, the second tip is to fight. She said that humans must be able to survive in life. Because by trying and fighting all problems can be solved.

“That does not mean by accepting, we just stay at home. Human life is not like that, just like you guys (seminar participants, ed) go to college every day, work, it’s human instinct that we have to survive in this life, ” she added.

Nana has proven that positive thinking is very helpful in her treatment. For example, many people say that after undergoing chemotherapy someone will look thin, but she managed to prove otherwise. She showed by keeping positive thinking, chemotherapy did not provide significant changes to the body.

In the end, she revealed that happiness is not when things are fine, not when healthy, not when there are no problems in life, but in the midst of existing weaknesses, we can benefit others and that is the definition of happiness. Through the seminar, Nana also appealed that health is an important thing to be maintained. (*)
