UNAIR NEWS – A researcher, including a lecturer, is obliged to publish a scientific paper to publish his findings and research. But in reality, to make a successful article published in a journal is not easy. Moreover, making articles published in Scopus indexed journals.

For this reason, UNAIR Community Service and Development Institute (LPPM) held a Scopus indexed research paper / review writing workshop for lecturers of private universities (PTS) in East Java. The workshop was held in Kahuripan Room 300 UNAIR, on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

The two-day workshop had a diverse set of activities. The first day focused on tips for writing a Scopus indexed journal papers while on the second day focused on coaching clinic.

The material on the first day was how to determine ideas, topics, and the novelty of scientific work presented by the Head of UNAIR Research and Innovation Institute (LPI) Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, M. Si., Ph.D. Prof. Hery presented tips on determining the topic and how to write in a journal indexed by Scopus.

Writing a journal, according to Prof. Hery, requires immense curiosity, bravery and competitiveness. “Must be brave with honed curiosity,” said Prof. Hery

Prof. Hery suggested, to write a Scopus indexed journal paper, researchers could at first rewrite their works. “Paraphrase papers or rewrite papers to train in writing papers in different languages,” he explained.

Determining the number of paragraphs is important when writing a paper. It is useful to include important things in journal papers. “When my student asked how many paragraphs and he wanted to write 11, I said 11 are too many, 7 is enough,” he said.

Prof. Hery emphasized that if there were important points to be included in the paragraph, sort again which points were more important. “If they are equally important, try to examine which are more important than the important ones. Then what’s not important doesn’t need to be included, “he stressed.

In the end, Prof. Hery suggested that the writer could convey the contents of the journal to the general public. It must be done by the writer in a simple and clear manner. (*)
