UNAIR Taekwondo Wins Ten International Championship Medals

UNAIR NEWS – Another achievement was made again by the Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). Ten UNAIR delegates won the championship medals at the 2nd Pakualam X International Championship on 19-20 October 2019. The competition held at the Amongrogo Yogyakarta Sports Hall (GOR) was not only attended by participants from Indonesia but also participants from abroad, such as from Malaysia, Singapore, East Timor, to France.

In total there were twelve students sent as delegates and ten of them succeeded in bringing home ten medals, 7 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals.

The delegates who managed to get medals were Arinda Nurhasanah, First Winner Kyorugi Women’s Senior U-46 kg category, Mutiara Wira Second Winner Kyorugi Women’s Senior U-57 kg category, Iqbal Imam Second winner Kyorugi Men’s Senior U-87 kg category, Fachrizal Fikri Third Winner Kyorugi Men’s Senior Category U-68 kg, Zegen Wiraatmaja, First Winner Kyorugi Men’s Senior U-58 kg category, Aura Dimar First Winner Poomsae Senior Pair Category and First Winner Senior Men’s Team Poomsae Category, Galang Dandi First Winner Men’s Senior U-58 kg Team Poomsae Category, and Devi Himawan First Winner Men’s Senior Team Poomsae Category.

Representative of the delegation team, Galang Dandi said that the key to the success of UNAIR Taekwondo UKM team was the team cohesiveness. Each delegate, he continued, always reminded each other to practice diligently, support each other, and maintain loyalty.

“Hard training every day, three times a day, morning, evening and night. After undergoing more or less intensive training for three months finally paid off with a medal, “he said.

Dandi admitted that he and his team-mates often spent free time training hard to prepare for the best performance on the arena. He hoped that in the future UNAIR Taekwondo UKM can continue to produce disciplined and great athletes.

“This championship is one of the most memorable championships because it has provided a lot of smiles and blessings in my life. The two happiest are seeing parents cry when their children win the championship, “said Dandi.

Previously, the UNAIR Taekwondo UKM Team also won seven medals in the taekwondo national championship, the Semarang Police Chief Cup on April 27-28, 2019. (*)
