Looking for the Right Job

Drs. Tubiyono M.Si, a lecturer at Faculty of Humanities (FIB) and coordinator of the Universitas Airlangga Center for Career and Entrepreneurship Development (PPKK) in 2019 Career Day Vocational Prospect seminar on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in the Faculty of Vocational Studies Building C Hall explained that there are six things that must be understood to find the right job. First select the desired job, position or company position in accordance with the competencies and field of study.

Second, search for information about job openings through various printed and electronic media. Third, find out as much as possible about the company such as culture, payroll system, and career path. Fourth, make an interesting Curriculum Vitae (CV) and cover letter. Fifth, get ready mentally and physically in facing the entrance test and interview. And sixth, ready to accept failure.

Drs. Tubiyono said, during the interview, there were some things that needed to be considered besides how to dress, such as how to walk, how to sit, and eye contact. It shows one’s confidence. For language use, choose good words in the interview. It can be an aspect of the interview assessment.

“When we (applicants, ed) sit, don’t lean on the chair, the back must be straight and sit quietly,” he said.

“Eyes looking ahead, do not look at the ceiling or floor. Someone gazing toward the ceiling or floor shows that they lack confidence, “he explained.

When someone tries to apply for a job and then fail, it is common.

Keep up the spirit and keep trying is the key. “If the first test fails, think of it as first experience,” he said.

“No need to feel despair, just keep trying. Take the lesson if you fail to apply for a job “, he stated. (*)
