UNAIR NEWS – Politics and Government Days (POLGOV DAYS) 2019 is a competition organized by Political and Government Student Corps of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The competition consisted of debate, conferences, and scientific writing competitions. Delegations from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) had the opportunity to attend the conference at 2019 DAYS POLGOV event.

The event which was held on 17-20 October 2019 at Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM carried the theme “Observing Social and Political Problems in the 2019 Elections”. There are nine teams to take part in the final of the conference competition. Namely, Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Udayana (UNUD), Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), and Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).

Rizky Wijayanti, Lalu Ary Kurniawan Hardi, and Marsya Martia became FISIP UNAIR delegates in the event. The first stage that must be passed is submitting the paper, and it will be presented at national student conferences.

Delegation of FISIP UNAIR raised the sub-theme “Utilization of Digital Literacy for Voters as an Effort to Prevent Hoax Spread.” It was chosen because there is a tendency towards the immortality of hoax seedlings, which is challenging to handle and increasingly threatens the ongoing political process in Indonesia.

“We (FISIP UNAIR Delegation, ed) selected this theme because the tendency towards hoax seemed to be difficult to handle and increasingly threatened the ongoing process of politics in Indonesia,” said Rizky, a member of the delegation.

According to him, the rise of political hoax in Indonesia poses a threat to novice voters, but the community does not have a good understanding of reality and systematic politics. Moreover, the process of political socialization and education in Indonesia is stagnant.

Thus, an idea emerged to create a platform called Meme Comic Republik Indonesia (memicri.id). The platform is for political socialization using meme comic media in the form of digital literacy for novice voters.

As you know, meme comics are currently are popular with the broader community. Furthermore, Lalu Ary was also awarded as the best delegate at the event.

Rizky explained that the primary key in attending the conference was a proper preparation. “The key is preparation, and it will affect the implementation,” he said.

Besides, the most important thing in writing is finding different topics from others. During the presentation, participant should develop a mature strategy starting from the presentation.

“Participant should be prepared during the presentation,” he said.

“In the opening speech, they can deliver in creative ways such as poetry, rhymes, singing, or rap, “he concluded. (*)
