UNAIR NEWS – Indonesia is one of the regions in the world prone to disasters. Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the earth crust movement under Indonesian land and sea, can cause many disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes, and even volcanic eruptions.
Furthermore, Indonesia has two seasons. Other than earthquake and tsunami, floods and drought are two things that often occur in several regions in Indonesia. It is the reason why people consider disaster as common thing.
The potential loss from a disaster is truly extraordinary, from property losses to the loss of lives. For this reason, Universitas Airlangga is going to hold a national seminar entitled Anticipation and Disaster Management.
The national seminar will present several speakers, the Governor of East Java Dra. Hj. Khofifah Indar Parawansa, M.Si .; lecturer of the Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS) Prof. Dr. Ir. Amien Widodo, M.Sc.
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) 2008-2019 Prof. Dr. Syamsul Ma’arif, S.lo., MH; Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) lecturer Gegar Prasetya, MSc., (Hons), Ph. D; and Universitas Airlangga’s lecturer who is also Head of Ksatria Airlangga Medika Foundation, Dr. Christrijogo Soemartono Waloejo, Dr., Sp., An., KAR.
The national seminar on Disaster Anticipation and Management is being held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Garuda Mukti Hall, 5th Floor UNAIR Management Office, Campus C.
Rector of Universitas Airlangga Prof. Moh. Nasih said that this seminar is a space to share knowledge on disasters and how to deal with them.
“We can manage these disasters as well as we can. So disaster can be minimized, ” said Prof. Nasih. ” This event is for mutual understanding. So that we can manage disasters as well as we can and this welfare will be preserved, ” said the professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).
Through the seminar, Prof. Nasih hoped that all participants will have excellent understanding that disasters may happen any time. For this reason, there must be anticipation and best management of disasters at all times. (*)
