UNAIR NEWS – Affandy Fahrizain also known as Affan succeeded in becoming a delegate at 2019 South East Asia Developer Student Club (DSC) program held by Google. On this occasion, Bachelor of Information Systems (SI) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was the only delegation from UNAIR.

The 2019 DSC Summit program took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 6–8. Participants in the event were 100 people from five countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN). Namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Philippines.

“For three days, we were taught the latest Google technologies, self-branding training, leadership, career path at Google. Besides, we were also allowed to build networking with Google directly, “he said.

The 2019 DSC Summit program was held to prepare DSC Leader to run DSC, especially in the ASEAN region. Delegates were also given the mandate to educate young people and the public about the use of the latest technology and its utilization.

According to Affan, the initial selection process, which is filling out an online registration form and making an English-language video contains self-introduction and sharing experiences in the world of Information Technology (IT). Then, if the participant passed the selection, they will do an online interview with Google.

At DSC 2019 event, Google as the organizer stressed that the use of technology must be optimized. Besides, it is expected that the impact of using Google technology can be felt by the community in overcoming problems in the field.

DSC Summit 2019 delegates will also be pioneers in the development of IT community on campus. Thus, the community can learn the latest Google technologies, and knowledge resources will get full support from Google. The plan is to have three main agendas to be implemented, such as workshops, problem-solving, and showcases.

“During Cultural Night moment, all DSC leaders are obliged to wear their respective traditional dress. This section was very memorable because we from Indonesia with the highest number of participants had the opportunity to show the culture, “he said.

Affan claimed the program gained a lot of unique experiences, expand relation, especially between countries and even Google directly. He also said that students must be good at taking opportunities and routinely hunting knowledge off-campus. Thus, students know what developments outside the campus are like and do not lag behind other campus students. (*)
