UNAIR NEWS – Joshua Aji Nimpuna, Management student of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) made an international achievement again. Joshua completed student exchanges in Romania on 2019 June and flew to Malaysia for a conference on August 25-28.

The event was Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN), a conference that facilitates young people who want to contribute to the world. The discussion raised current issues which will be focus on the field of United Nations (UN).

Joshua was one of Indonesia’s representatives in the event. Besides, he focused on the theme of International Organization for Migration (IOM) regarding to Immigrants problem in Mediterranean Sea (Boat People in the Mediterranean Sea).

The Immigrants are seeking for justice due to unstable political problems, racism, and social inequality forcing them to leave their homeland. The majority of immigrants are from African Continent and relocate in European region.

The illegal immigrant problem in Mediterranean Sea becomes a problem that must be resolved immediately. It is essential to know that immigrants, especially children need psychology and mental support.

“At the conference, I explained that all immigrants are needed to be considered especially children,” he said.

The student from Batu City also added that immigrant children need to be equipped with proper education. Thus,  immigrants can survive in the future.

Joshua believes that the government needs to state the rule clearly. The European Union is demanded to provide care in the form of legal products because there are still some violence and neglect of immigrants.

Not only education and legal protection, Joshua also advised to IOM such as psychological assistance, health services, granting free visas, and work competency training for immigrants. It will help immigrants to survive their life. (*)
