Freshmen Show Creativity at Adiraga Festival

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) invited all participants of 2019 Introduction to Campus Life for Freshmen (PKKMB) to utilized used stuff to create unique works at the Adiraga Festival on Monday, August 5, 2019, in several areas of C UNAIR campus.

The special event was held at Campus C UNAIR that afternoon. For the 4th day of the PKKMB, all participants were busy presenting clothes from their recycled waste.

In the activity titled Adiraga Festival, PKKMB participants used their ideas on making clothes from used goods. They did not only design it, but they must demonstrate and explain the philosophy.

“So, freshmen make a work from used materials and other materials to be exhibited later,” said Enggar Qur’ani Ayu as the Steering Committee.

There were 80 groups from all PKKMB UNAIR participants who participated in the activity. All stages of the activity, from the preparation of the material to fashion demonstration, was done by each group.

The fashion show was done in an exciting and interesting manner. Some music, dance and narration, made the fashion show which lasted for seven minutes felt short for each group.

“Even though we use plastic waste, we can make it into a useful item,” said one narrator who then sang the song Lir-ilir during the fashion show by group II of Garuda I.

The theme raised at Adiraga Festival was 3R, namely reduce, reuse, and recycle. What is unique, some groups not only used plastic to make clothes. They also used newspapers, bottles, plastics, straws, organic waste such as twigs and leaves to beautify their creations.

“We want to further enhance the spirit of creativity and we hope our freshmen will not only focus on academic achievement but also revive a spirit of creativity that might have been buried, ” she concluded. (*)
