A Satellite Program in Asian Congress of Nutrition 2019 with WUACD Universitas Airlangga

UNAIR NEWS – This year marks the thirteenth Asian Congress of Nutrition (ACN). The congress is held every four years in Asian countries. It is held to encourage scientific interchange between food and nutrition researchers, academia and professionals in Asian countries and worldwide. Bali was chosen to host Asian Congress of Nutrition this year on 4 – 7 August 2019.

WUACD (World University Association for Community Development) Universitas Airlangga was honored for the opportunity given to fill a satellite program in ACN 2019. The program invited Bali Caring Community which presented scavenging children as well as lecturers from Faculty of Public Health Universitas Airlangga and international academics. The program was aimed to increase the public health awareness to the community since the congress was attended by academia and professionals around the world. It was held on 5 August 2019 at 5pm.

The program started with all the participants putting on batik given to them. Then, there was a traditional dance and an afternoon sightseeing in Temple Garden of Westin Hotel. The culture of Bali and the scientific transfer knowledge to the community created a harmony within all of the participants. All participants were invited to dance along with the traditional dancers.

“The people around us always consider a scholar or a researcher as a role model. Therefore, it is a responsibility for scholars, professors, doctors, and even students to have a high integrity to empower the community wherever they are,” stated Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Hardinsyah, MS, the chairperson of ACN 2019 and the head of Indonesian Nutrition and Food Expert Association.
