UNAIR NEWS – Five Student of Faculty Humanities, Universitas Airlangga made achievements as the Third Winner of Activities Activation Category, a competition held by Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The students are Andri Setyo Nugroho, Puspita Rina Apritiwi, Muhammad Ramadhan, Fadillatul Dipoyanti Ningrum, and Nita Juhana Dewi.
2019 Youth Culture Camp (KBKM) was held in Prambanan, Klaten, Central Java. In addition, the team was named Garudeya, which stands for Youth Movement for Cultural Care. They raised traditional puppet arts from Nganjuk Regency in the competition.
Andri Setyo Nugroho as Head of Garudeya team revealed that timplong puppet arts need to be preserved. Regeneration in the preservation of culture is highlighted as a real action to save this culture.
“Because of the urgency regarding the regeneration, utilization, and protection of long-term puppet arts, we propose three ideas,” said Andri.
The idea is inviting puppet artists, and there are only four people left. By encouraging youth clubs, students, and local village communities in Pace District, it will lift back the existence of timplong puppets.
Not only that, Garudeya team also made timplong puppet art festival and several competitions.
The team also invited Government, Tourism and Culture Office, and students throughout Nganjuk Regency to preserve this traditional culture. In stages, the program initiated by Garudeya team can help the government managing its culture.
The idea of Jagongan Budaya dan Festival Budaya (Cultural Festival) can be accomplished with the coaching money that they earn.
“We can use the money directly to preserve the puppets,” he said.
Hopefully, the culture can be lifted up again. The involvement of the community, government, and academics are needed to help preserve the culture. (*)
