Again, FKH UNAIR Participates in Indo Livestock Expo and Forum

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) of Universitas Airlangga participated in the event related to livestock sector and veterinary. Namely, 14th Indonesia’s No. 1 International Livestock, Feed, Dairy and Fisheries Expo, and Forum (Indo Livestock) on Wednesday, July 3 to Friday, July 5 at Grand City Convex, Surabaya.

All local and foreign participants attended the event titled Livestock Technology Innovation Towards Industrial Revolution 4.0. Includes, business actors, experts, government agency, and university are engaged in livestock and animal husbandry sector. It was intended to provide understanding, also encouraged to create innovation.

Furthermore, Oky Setyo Widodo, drh., M.Si., as the teaching representative of FKH UNAIR said the event could be an opportunity to introduce himself on a larger scale. Some students were there to learn more about veterinary profession industry.

“We display FKH study program with A accreditation; our goal is alumni at Indo Livestock 2019. Maybe they are interested in continuing their master or doctoral education in FKH UNAIR,” said Oky.

In addition, FKH UNAIR conducted data collection on employee contacts and expanded new connection. For example, regarding the place of Job Training (PKL) and student internships.

In FKH UNAIR booth, student activities were also displayed through profile videos from professional interest group of large livestock veterinarian. Moreover,  they brought animals to attract visitor.

“We bring along iguanas and several types of snakes as displays. The enthusiasm of visitors is pretty much because they can take pictures with iguanas and snakes, “he added.

One of FKH UNAIR lecturers’ products was also shown. Namely, probiotics from Dr. Widya Paramita Lokapirnasari M.P., Drh. For information, probiotics are an alternative to animal feed supplement antibiotics. Its function is to suppress the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract by producing anti-microbial compounds for pathogenic bacteria. The compound is the result of probiotic bacteria, among others, lactic acid, acetic acid, H2O2, and bacteriocin.

The other content contained in metabolism probiotics is cellulotic bacteria as degradation of fibrous material on feed to make it easier to digest. Therefore, probiotics can play a role in increasing feed consumption and growth rates.

“There are several other products by FKH UNAIR lecturers. However, those who already have a new distribution permit for probiotics belong to Drh. Widya. “The others are still in the process,” he said.

In addition to the opportunity to open a booth, two other FKH UNAIR lecturers participated as speakers at the seminar at the same place on Thursday, July 4. Namely, Prof. Dr. Suwarno M.Si., Drh., Who presented material on the utilization of Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) and Prof. Dr. Lucia Tri Suwanti dr., M.P., who was lined up to explain the problem of coccidiosis in poultry, especially chicken.
