UNAIR NEWS – Director of Academic Affairs Universitas Airlangga Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari officially handed over 200 students to Bandung Regency for 2019 Community Service Program (KKN) on Thursday, July 4, 2019. In his speech, Prof. Bambang gave some encouragement to all KKN participants before supporting the community.

The students from 14 faculties in UNAIR are expected to show HEBAT (great) character of UNAIR students. HEBAT characters were coined by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., before KKN Scheme I was deployed.

To interact and be involved in the community with all its problems, said Prof. Bambang, is one of the improvements to the motto built by UNAIR, Excellence with Morality. It means UNAIR students do not only have hard skills, but also soft skills.

“The students (participants of KKN-Citarum Harum, ed) are expected to show HEBAT characters,” he said.

Prof. Bambang, explained the first letter H meant Humble. UNAIR students should never be arrogant. The students, especially KKN-Citarum Harum participants, must be friendly, inferior, able to adapt, able to read situation, and able to read the customs of society.

“It includes being able to interact well with the community,” he said at Citarum Riverbank in the opening.

“So, even though we have higher education, we should not be arrogant. We must remember that we are also from the community itself, and will come back to that community later, “he added.

The next letter is E, which is Excellent. Prof. Bambang explained that Excellent means the ability of students learning from a qualified campus. Students are equipped with the ability in each field, from medicine, science, social, to pharmacy.

“This excellence is obtained by students through hard skills. So, those who are doctors, should have excellent medical skills including the social, economic and pharmaceutical fields, “he said.

Next is B, Brave. Students are expected to have the courage to do something in society, such as solving a problem in the society.

“Dare to execute the results of evaluation on previous KKN and programs that have been proclaimed jointly with the TNI in Task Force 7 / Citarum Harum,” he said.

“You must be brave in solving problems in society,” he added

The fourth letter is A, Agile. According to Prof. Bambang, Agile means intense, and fast. The KKN Citarum Harum students are expected to have a quick attitude and sensitivity, responding to all forms of problems in society.

“Students must be responsive with good execution, especially having the flexibility to problems occuring suddenly, “he said.

The last letter, T, is Transcendent. It means everything that has been done by students should be always related to the Almighty, the One God.

“You must rely everything to the power of God,” he said.

Prof. Bambang encouraged the students to show HEBAT characters in KKN Citarum Harum, especially when they interact and face problems directly in 14 villages, 5 sub-districts of Sector 7 / Citarum Harum. (*) Author: Feri Fenoria Rifa’i
