UNAIR NEWS – Gelar Bakti GEN Corps (GBGC) is an annual social service event held by BSO Green Nursing Corps (GEN Corps) from Faculty of Nursing (FKp) UNAIR. GBGC activity was held on June 25, in Keputih Village, Surabaya. The event was also attended and opened by Vice Dean I of Faculty of Nursing UNAIR, Dr. Kusnanto S.Kp., Ns., M.Kes. and in collaboration with Indonesian Yayasan Bangun Sehat Indonesia (YBSI)

This activity aims to implement one of the Tridharma of Higher Education, which is community service, and it increases the skills of new members. Besides, GBGC was held in Pemulung Keputih Village because of the concern of citizens for the environmental and health conditions in there.

“The impact of this social service activity for FKp UNAIR students, especially members of GEN Corps is applying the material to the residents directly. Starting from good communication during the assessment, procedures for checking blood sugar & gout, drug administration and health education socialization to residents, “said Mutiara as Head of 2019 GEN Corps.

The community service has several agendas included counseling on hypertension, health checks, distribution of medicines, and distribution of basic necessities. The first agenda was hypertension counseling delivered by Wikan Purwuhantoro Sudarmaji S.Kep., Ns. Hypertension material received quite high enthusiasm from residents.

The next agenda was health checking activity. There were blood pressure, blood sugar and gout checking, doctor’s consultation, and medicine distribution. So, people will get a lot of knowledge and education about health. Furthermore, it was continued with the distribution of basic needs for residents of Keputih Village.

“This social service is very beneficial for the surrounding community and us. I’m grateful for this activity. Hopefully, this activity will be held more often in other villages, “said Matsari, as a member of the Keputih Village

The event ended at 12:40 a.m followed by the closing activity of giving plaques to all parties who helped in the process of running the event. “2019 National Corps Service Ceremony carried out by committee, administrators and community coordinators, as well as residents of Keputih Pemulung Village itself, especially all assistance from Bangun Sehat Indonesia Foundation (YBSI) who had provided medical assistance, medicine and others, “said Ro’ihatus  as the person in charge of GEN Corps Service Event.

After this activity, the residents of Pemulung Keputih Village are expected to apply the knowledge they have obtained during counseling. Thus, they can maintain their health.
