UNAIR NEWS – To optimize the results of their creativity, Student Creativity Program Team for Community Service (PKM-M) entitled “Mahogany Seeds Anti-Mosquito Lotion (LOTAN) as Alternative to Control Dengue Fever in Surabaya” held a dissemination and training on LOTAN Mahogany Seeds to the families in Sememi urban community, Benowo Sub-district, Surabaya City.

The team, led by Shindy Ayu Anggraini, did not only focus on LOTAN Mahogany Seeds product in the dissemination but also on how to make LOTAN Mahogany seeds products independently to prevent dengue fever disease.

“The concept is Community Development, so there is empowerment by and from the community itself,” she explained.

The dissemination and workshop in making LOTAN Mahogany Seeds, she explained, empowered each family to become a millennial family that can actualize themselves in environmental management and prevention of dengue fever disease. Furthermore, she continued, they could also fulfill their needs independently without depending on companies or the government.

“By making pesticide independently in each family in the form of mosquito repellents made of mahogany seeds, we can be more independent,” she said.

Shindy also said that the dissemination and workshop were presented to Jumantik (larva monitoring observers) and PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) activists. They were expected to be the cadres in guiding families to be aware of the importance of preventing dengue fever disease and help them to make LOTAN Mahogany Seeds independently as a form of a preventive measure.

“Thank God, there were good response and enthusiasm of Sememi residents for the workshop on making LOTAN Mahogany Seeds. They were enthusiastic about this lotion because it can prevent mosquito bites and eliminate itching,” she said. “Moreover, they like the smell of mahogany seeds. It was easy to make, and the seeds are sold in the market. So, mothers do not need to grow themselves at home, ” she concluded.
