Raising the Theme of Religious Tolerance, Ilkom UNAIR Showcases 50 Best Student Photo Works

UNAIR NEWS – Appreciation for student photography works can be done in many ways. In Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the appreciation of photography works is by holding a photography exhibition. Uniquely, the photography exhibition is part of Final Semester Examination (UAS) for Communication Studies S1 Program students who program photography courses.

The photography exhibition took place on June 18-20. It was opened directly by Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dr. Prof. Falih Suhaedi, with the number of photos on display as many as 50 students.

UNAIR FISIP Communication Lecturer Irfan Wahyudi, S. Sos., M.Comms., Ph.D said that the photography themes displayed are variety but what dominates more is religious tolerance.

“This time, the works are from 50 students from over 100 students who take photography courses in even semester of 2018-2019,” explained Irfan.

Before the exhibition, 50 photos were chosen first by professional photographers in Surabaya, Yuyung Abdi, and Putu Surya. Besides, it was also carried out by lecturers and assistants of UNAIR Communication Science lecturers. In fact, Yuyung Abdi is a senior Surabaya journalist and an alumnus of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UNAIR.

“There are more than 200 selected photos. That (photo, ed) is a collection of student assignments since the beginning of the semester, “he said.

Irfan added, photography courses with routine exhibition output are conducted every year. Usually, exhibitions are not only done on campus, but also outside the campus to increase public appreciation in general.

“It also motivates students who want to pursue their passion in photography,” said Irfan.

In the exhibition, the selected photos with high quality will automatically get an A. Thus, the students don’t have to do re-assignment for final semester examination.

In addition, the best photo works will get an award. It will motivate students who want to pursue their passion in photography realm.

“Hopefully, it (photo exhibition, ed) will encourage students creativity. As well as being a place for Photography class communication with a broader audience, “he said. (*)
