UNAIR NEWS – As a student, contributing to the community is a must to do. Community service is needed, so students have more awareness of the real condition and how to play their role in the community.

Being held in Gundih Village, Bubutan Sub-District, Surabaya, BEM Faculty of Psychology UNAIR held a community service event Psinar Binar program. It has been running for three periods. In this period, an iftar gathering was also held with residents, especially children on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

About seventy assisted children attended the iftar gathering. The children followed the sharing session with the students cheerfully. There were also Qur’an recitation and Al banjari performances.

“The residents responded well, very enthusiastically. They were happy as the children can spend their time with positive activities, “explained Siti Rokhmah, Head of Community Service Department, BEM Psychology UNAIR.

The children were taking part in the event with great enthusiasm. The committee was amazed by the children who were good at chanting praise and also reciting the Qur’an. At the end of the event, there was an awarding session for children. Awards are given to children who have performed well throughout the past year.

“This iftar gathering program also marked the end of stewardship. So, at the same time, we gave awards to the assisted children with special achievement from the committee, “said Siti Rokhmah.

UNAIR BEM Psychology also visits the assisted village every week. Once a week, students come to provide education to residents. The children are invited to learn and play together, while the mothers are given counseling by psychology students, both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Siti Rokhmah said that Psinar Binar from BEM Psychology was there to improve the welfare of the community. She hoped this program could provide significant benefits to the people, especially children.

“We want the assisted children to gain useful knowledge, especially in this blessed month. We also want to foster a sense of togetherness by doing a lot of joint activities, from playing to learning,” she concluded. (*)
