Communication Students Promote Ethical Fashion Issues through Local Artisan Festival

UNAIR NEWS – Students of Communication science program Universitas Airlangga has just held a Local Artisan Festival. It is a festival focusing on building awareness towards “ethical fashion” issues and “make-up cruelty-free”. It was themed “Ethical Brands: know how they made them, know how to thank them”.

This festival was held in On Market Go, one of the fashion stores in Tunjungan Plaza 5, Surabaya City from Saturday, May 18, 2019 to Sunday, May 19, 2019.

On Saturday, there was a workshop on how to recycle jeans into pouches. It was presented by a representative of LaSalle College Surabaya.

After he workshop, there was a beauty class, ”Dare to be Bold. The instructor was Aisyah Laila, a make-up artist.

On Sunday, a talk show was held. It was themed ”The Journey to Sustainable Fashion” and the speaker was Embran Nawawi, a senior fashion designer in Surabaya.

The final event was Fashion Show Competition. It was a contest for fashion designers. Their designs were presented by models on a stage, in presence of dozens people visiting the festival.

Nur Agung Guntoro, the Project Manager, expected the public to be aware more about their clothes. Even though it may seem trivial, but it affects greatly to the environment and the labor.

”And, I hope the public understand our cause and know that there are still many other options to sustainable living,” he stated. (*)
