UNAIR NEWS – “When performing tarawih prayers, we should pay attention to endurance or duration. Activities that rely on duration are more beneficial for heart health by increasing endurance, “Dr. Bambang Purwanto, dr. M. Kes.

He made the statement during a talk show at Tabligh Akbar 1440 AH at Graha Auditorium – BIK IPTEKDOK Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga (FK UNAIR) on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Dr. Bambang said that in sports health science, the goals of sports are speed, intensity, strength, and duration. If you mistakenly practice tarawih then it will cause stiff muscles.

In physiology, food is completely absorbed by the body within 2 hours. If there is only about an hour gap from iftar to tarawih, then the food in the body is not completely digested. If when there is speed or intensity during tarawih, it can cause nausea.
“Pray as calmly as exemplified by the Prophet,” said Dr. Bambang.

Breaking the fast should not be too excessively because human stomach capacity is only 800cc / hour. A plate of food can be about 500cc and medium mineral water is 600cc. However, when fasting, humans usually want to digest a lot of food and it exceeds gastric capacity. It will disrupt the solemnity of other worship activities such as tarawih prayer.
In performing fasting there are two things to consider, blood sugar and water levels. By keeping an eye on these two things, the body can have endurance until the prayer ends.
“Both of these can be dealt with by breaking the fast with a sweet drink. One thing that can be done is soaking dates in water, “said Dr. Bambang.

But the sweetness should not be too excessive. Excessive sugar levels in the body will absorb water and cause coughs. Dr. Bambang gave an example of proper sweetness by soaking 5 dates with 600cc water for 8-10 hours.

Breaking the fast with fried food should be avoided. Oil from fried food can cause irritation to the digestive tract. Fried food can be eaten after tarawih.

When sahur, try food with complete nutrients such as fiber, protein, and fat. It will make our stomach full longer.

“But don’t overdo it,” he added.

During sahur, people need to consume enough water. If it is too much, it will immediately be released through urine. Avoid food or drinks that contain lots of water, such as watermelon, melons, cucumbers, tea, and coffee because it will bring dehydration. (*)
