BEM FISIP and Airlangga Bonek Discuss Soccer Community Culture

UNAIR NEWS – Student Executive Body (BEM) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP)  held a discussion about reflection on community culture, especially in the field of soccer. In collaboration with Airlangga Bonek (AIRBONE) and Bawah Skor Mandala, a discussion was born with the theme “Constructing Identity and Culture in Supporting Soccer Clubs”.

The presenters were Donny P. Timur from Airlangga Bonek and Dimaz Maulana from Bawahskor. The discussion was held in view of the dynamics and the proliferation of polemics of people who support their respective club. It was held on Friday, May 17 in the park behind FISIP UNAIR.

In the discussion, Donny explained about Surabaya regional subculture was originated from kingdom and it was part of the largest maritime kingdom. East Java itself has a culture and divided into four, including Madura Island, Arek, Mataraman, and Pandalungan.

“Surabaya with the culture is almost similar to an egalitarian culture and no one can tell us what to do. Since the colonial era until now in the context of bonek,” said Donny.

“But it doesn’t matter when we supporting soccer. As long as the point level between us and others are the same, there is no higher or lower. “he stressed.

In the event, Dimaz explained his story when he saw a live soccer match in U.K, he went to several stadiums in the cities of Liverpoll, Manchester, Nottingham and London.

“When I visited there, my mind was more open in seeing soccer culture and I want to implement it to Mandala Krida because I’ve been following English league since I was little, “he said.

The discussion then ended with a question and answer session and shared experiences from the speakers, followed by a joint photo session. Not only bonek from UNAIR, there were also bonek from several campuses, including Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Surabaya (UINSA), dan Universitas Dr. Soetomo (UNITOMO).
