UNAIR NEWS – Department of Public Relations of Management Program Student Association (HIMA) Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga held a branding class on May 17, 2019, at Mindrowo Hall FEB UNAIR. The topic discussed in the branding class was how to make and edit interesting and effective videos.

The speaker was Vincent Ricardo (Youtuber), University of Indonesia (UI) Faculty of Law (FH) student. Vincent explains the important points need to be considered to become a famous youtuber for beginners, intention, passion, and production value.

To become a youtuber, money is not the main issue, but to share values of life to others through videos is what most important. Therefore, in making videos, the chosen topic needs to be tailored to the maker’s passions such as reading, music, and sports. It also determines the productivity of a youtuber in making videos. Many people fail midway because it is not following their passions.

Vincent also said that the value of video production is very important to compete with other youtubers. It is important to create distinctive styles in making videos such as unique scenarios and topics. If a youtuber does not have a different breakthrough, then it is likely that he will be unable to compete with the famous other youtubers who started first.

“We now see there are many celebrities who become youtubers. Most likely, their YouTube channel will be viewed by many people. So, to compete with it, we should create quality production values so people continue to watch our youtube channel, “he said.

Besides, Vincent also revealed that it is not easy to become a successful youtuber. Being a famous and successful youtuber is very expensive, tired, and difficult. However, if you already have a good self-reputation (personal branding) it will bring satisfying results.

“In a sophisticated era, we no longer need to think that finding a job is difficult. The important thing is we pursue the things we do. Being a youtuber for example, if you already have good personal branding, a video that lasts 5-8 minutes can generate 500 million to 2 billion, “he added. (*)
