UNAIR NEWS – Dental Health Engineering Study Program Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) successfully held one of their annual program, International Waxing and Ortho Competition 2019. The event held at Faculty of Dental Medicine, Campus A UNAIR was attended by dozens students from various universities.
Junifar Aditama as Head of Dental Health Engineering Study Program Student Association said the event is an annual agenda since 2016. According to him, the event committee improved the quality of the competition in terms of technical events and also the venue this year.
“We are grateful there were more student from previous year. In addition, there were 25 participants for waxing competition and 8 for ortho competition” said Junifar.
Divided into two competitions, namely waxing and ortho. The competition focuses on sharpening student creativity in creating new innovation for oral and dental health. In addition, one of the objectives was to make a gathering event for Dental Health Engineering students.
“On this occasion, Dental Health Engineering students from various universities could interact and share stories. Of course, it will help strengthen relation between universities, “explained Junifar.
“In addition, this event is a branding for Dental Engineering Study Program. There are still many people who do not know about this study program. Thus, we want to simultaneously promote our study program, “he continued.
The event opened with technical meetings and remarks. Then filled with some entertainment such as traditional dance and acoustic performances. After that, the participants were invited to enter the laboratory and start the competition session.
Participants for waxing competition were asked to make a teeth replica using clay with certain criteria set by the committee. While for ortho, participants focused on making removable devices in the form of labial arcs and adams. After that, the committee assessed the results of the creativity of the participants according to the existing assessment criteria.
The waxing competition was won by Felita Ardelia from Poltekkes II Jakarta, followed by Firdha Meizahrazaq from D3 Dental Health Engineering UNAIR as the second winner and Santika Handayani from Poltekkes II Jakarta as the third winner. While for ortho competition, winners I, II, and III were won by UNAIR Dental Engineering D3 students. (*)
