UNAIR NEWS – Airlangga Bojonegoro Community (ABC) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held ABC Berbagi Kasih (Shares Love) entitled “Harmony”, Hope and Motivation of Children. The activity was held at Indonesian Children with Cancer Foundation (YKAKI) on Thursday, April 25, 2019. ABC students provide motivation and give spirit to children with cancer.

Berbagi Kasih is an annual work program from the ABC Community Service Department. Not only dedication to Bojonegoro community, but ABC also contributes significantly to the community around Surabaya as a city where they study.

Nurul Azizah as head of the committee revealed that the struggle of children with cancer is very hard.  ABC Students through this activity tried to bring a little happiness to children with cancer in YKAKI.

“We try to motivate them (children with cancer, ed) so that they are still enthusiastic about living, also give them hope to reach their dreams,” she said.

Azizah said that in the event, they invited children with cancer in YKAKI to study and play together. When asked about their dreams, they answered very enthusiastically, some wanted to become doctors, teachers, firefighters, and so on.

“They are strong children and have big dreams,” she added.

Azizah then recalled the film ” Anak Kecil Untuk Tuhan” where the character in film was a teenager who fought cancer with a hard struggle. In YKAKI, children who supposed to enjoy their time playing with their friends, now have to face a severe illness.

“People should start caring about cancer patients and omit statement that cancer can be transmitted through external activities, even though in reality cancer cannot be transmitted through physical contact,” she said.

Azizah hoped that the children with cancer can recover soon and their struggle is recorded as a reward. From them Azizah learned to never complain and continued to be grateful for their health.

“I hope they can continue to be enthusiastic and never give up. I want to see them cured and reach their big dreams, ” she concluded. (*)
