UNAIR NEWS – Industrial revolution 4.0 is marked by intense competitions and rapid information flow. Indonesia must be ready to compete with other countries. Responding to the problem, Universitas Airlangga Planning and Development Board (BPP UNAIR) held a National Workshop entitled “Redesigning Curriculum to Face Industrial Revolution 4.0” on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building Campus C UNAIR.

Efforts to make preparation for revolution 4.0 continue to be carried out by all parties, including the government. One of them is Ministry of Industry by establishing integrated Indonesia 4.0.

Attending at the discussion, Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., FINASIM (Vice Rector I UNAIR), and speakers, Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda Alias (UTM Malaysia), Hadi Satya Graha, PhD, (MM UNAIR’s Best Lecturer & Manager Advisor of Podomoro Land) Noven Suprayogi, SE., M.Si., Ak (FEB UNAIR Lecturer). The event was moderated by Yuni Sari Amalia, MA., Ph.D as Head of Center for Learning Innovation and Certification (PIPS).

Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., FINASIM as Vice Rector I revealed that universities nowadays have to adapt to the revolution 4.0. UNAIR students should integrate material and practice in the field so that they are not left behind by others.

“The existence of digitalization, content should be adjusted to the scientific and professional fields. They are two sides of a coin that cannot be separated, “he added.

Meanwhile Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda Alias explained that knowledge of higher education is known through technology. Students easily access all forms of applications or features that make it easier for them to do something. This is what is called digital native.

“Learning that used to be conventional, must now be changed. The instructors must switch to involving technology as part of the curriculum itself, ” she said.

Continued Dr. Rose, universities must begin to provide stimulus to students through assignments that are not merely aborting their obligations. The assignment is expected to make students analyze, evaluate and solve all social problems in their environment.

She also revealed that the industrial revolution 4.0 curriculum design is expected to meet the needs of students in knowing their knowledge and competence. The instructors have an obligation to guide and encourage students to solve all the problems around them.

“Do not let the graduates not know the competencies that he has, so they just go to college to get a diploma and go with the flow,” she concluded.

One of the biggest challenges of universities in facing this revolution is being able to identify and develop knowledge, competencies, attributes that can prepare students to survive in professional world and their environment. The curriculum in each semester must continue to be addressed and evaluated at all times.

“Now is the time, students are invited to collaborate and integrate with each other. Students need to be invited to redesign the latest curriculum for the sake of effective learning in Higher Education,” she added. (*)
