EKIS Delegates Participate in Scientific Competition in South Korea

UNAIR NEWS – In the industrial revolution 4.0 era, it is only normal for students to prioritize innovation and participate in national and international competitions. It must be done in order to face global competition which is getting fiercer.

In response, FEB UNAIR Islamic Economic Team (EKIS) participated in CISAK Call For Paper competition held by Indonesian Student Association in South Korea (PERPIKA) on March 30-31, 2019 at Korean Maritime and Ocean University in Busan Korea South. With the title “Improving the Performance of Traditional Market through Making Shariah Compliance Online Platform for Traditional Market” the delegation finally qualified to take part in the next round.

The members of the delegation team were Salma Fioren Salsabella (2016), Dita Trisna Puspita M (2016), and Muhammad Iqbal Rifqi A (2015). All three came from the Department of Islamic Economics FEB UNAIR. This was an achievement from the hard work that was followed by UNAIR students.

Dita Trisna Puspita M during interview explained that the team’s paper presented topic of marketing aimed at traders in traditional markets. The innovation was in the form of Online Marketing Platform which aims to make traditional market merchandise available to wider community and facilitate sellers and buyers.

“The advantage of our paper is on the Sharia side, because it was rarely mentioned during competition. Our paper does not only discuss its advantage in the world, but also in the hereafter. That’s what makes our paper stood out to others’, ” she concluded.

In addition to getting academic benefits and valuable experience, the delegation admitted that by participating in the competition, they made many new friends. They also had the opportunity to go on tour, seek halal food and learn Korean.

CISAK is the Conference of the Indonesian Students Association in South Korea. This activity is an annual event held by PERPIKA and this year is in its 11th year. It is attended by students from undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

“The activities that we follow are expected to motivate UNAIR students to participate actively in national and international competitions. Because it will provide many benefits and also help UNAIR to achieve the Top 500 World rank mission, ” she added. (*)
