The Excitement of Photography Courses of Communication Studies Student

UNAIR NEWS – Coinciding with Surabaya Vaganza 2019, communication science student, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) were assigned to capture the event through their photography skills. The assignment was a part of photography journalism courses, it was held on Sunday March 24, 2019. Precisely starting from Tugu Pahlawan to SMK Santa Maria in Darmo area.

One of the students, Afiska Aulia Berliani who participated in the cources explained her experience. For her, the most interesting moment was Reog Ponorogo.

“Reog was performed on the right time, it was placed at last. The last sequence seems intentional thus, people who get bored can enjoy the event again.” said the student batch 2017, called Afiska.

“This photography assignment made me productive in the morning. I came to learn several cultures from the parade participants. Besides that, I can interact with them, “she added.

Adding the statement, Adelia Eka Dita, also conveyed her impression after hunting photos in the middle of Surabaya Vaganza 2019 event. Although she was tired of following the parade, she usually came with family to find out the diversity of communities in Surabaya.

“Impressive, Surabaya has a high tolerance for various cultures,” she said.

Meanwhile, Yuyung Abdi as a UNAIR Communication Science lecturer said that the assignment was aimed at making students to learn photography not only as knowledge. However, he continued, students were able to combine the ability of knowledge, experience and technical skills.

“It is hoped that students will be more sensitive to the environment. This interaction was expected to achieve knowledge that is beneficial to the community.” said the lecturer who is also Jawa Pos photographer.

Surabaya Vaganza 2019 

It was a routine activity held by Department of Culture and Tourism of Surabaya city, the activity usually invites various communities. Starting from community that brings traditional culture to international culture.

The activity with a full parade of flower decorations started from Tugu Pahlawan and Bambu Runcing to SMAK Santa Maria. There were attended by 78 participants consisting of 40 decorative cars and 38 parade participants from various communities in Surabaya. (*)
