UNAIR Delegation Presents Indonesian Inclusive Education in Kuala Lumpur

UNAIR NEWS – Inclusive education is getting a lot of attention by educational observers from various parts of the world. There is a common awareness that all humans, regardless of their physical condition, have the right to get the same educational opportunities as other colleagues.

To that end, Executive Director of Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih was invited in a panel discussion event 14 th Asia-Pacific Association for International Education Conference and Exhibition (APAIE) 2019, held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Malaysia. The panel discussion took place in Room 308 on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 discussed inclusive education.

In her presentation to academics from various countries, Prof. Nyoman explained the development of inclusive education in Indonesia, both from the elementary and tertiary levels.

The panel discussion in the afternoon presented three speakers. Besides Prof. Nyoman, the other two speakers were Dr. Sheena Kaur as Deputy Director, International Relations Office, University of Malaya; and Prof. Yong Zulina Zubairi as Vice Chancellor for Internationalization, University Malaya.

“(This panel discussion, ed) Specially shared about inclusive education in Malaysia and Indonesia. So it (presentation, ed) displays not only in UNAIR, but also about the public policy in Indonesia, about education for students with special needs, “explained Prof. Nyoman.

On that occasion, Prof. Nyoman also explained about UNAIR’s concern for students with special needs. One of them is by admitting students with special needs to participate in joint admission to college, and also build campus facilities that are disability-friendly.

Prof. Nyoman also explained the matter of education in Indonesia which is not only general education, but also education that is affiliated with religion. For example, with the presence of Islamic State University (UIN).

Besides the topic of disability, there are various panel discussions held on Wednesday-Thursday, March 26-27, 2019, such as about the ranking of higher education institutions, organizational management, and many other topics discussed by academics.

In addition to Prof. Nyoman, on the third day of the panel discussion, the event committee also invited UNAIR delegate Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco as Head of UNAIR Planning and Development Board ( BPP ). This Thursday, March 28, 2019 Prof. Badri will talk a lot about organizational management. (*)
