Nando Reza Pratama Wins Bronze in Simpic Thailand Event

UNAIR NEWS – Nando Reza Pratama, Student of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University (FK UNAIR) won a bronze medal at Siriraj International Medical Microbiology Parasitology and Immunology Competition (Simpic) at the Siriraj Hospital, Faculty of Medicine Mahidol University, Thailand on Thursday, March 21, 2019. This year, there were 54 teams from 11 countries participated in Simpic.

There are 2 categories in Simpic preliminary rounds, Individual and team, Top 18 (3 gold 5 silver and 9 bronze) will be awarded.

Nando said that when he joined Simpic he was not only competing. There was also a development of soft skills including a trip to Thai History and Security Museum, Grand Palace, playing games and participating in “Thai Village” festival.

Nando said that being able to meet, chat and joke with residents from other countries make his trip in Thailand special. Uniquely, Nando had left his bag at the airport. So he had to go back again to get it.

“The most unfortunate thing is, when a team answered prolapse recti because we were taught that way. But it is wrong that it should be prolapsus recti or rectal prolapsed, ” he said.

Nando’s motivation to join Simpic was his love on microbiology, parasitology and immunology. He said that infectious diseases can occur anywhere and anytime. It is very important to learn considering that the disease involve the immune system.

He also claimed that he wanted to gain experience in competition. According to him, there is rarely an international level medical competition like Simpic .

“The point is I like it and want to gain experience,” he said.

To prepare for Simpic , Nando said there must be readiness for material, mental, cooperation, and accuracy. With good preparation, he can answer 80-90 percent of the questions.

“But there are other factors that are unexpected, so you must often practice according to the rules of the round,” he added.

Amid the busy activities on research and thesis, Nando took the time to join Simpic. He said that the activity did not interfere with his academic performance.

“It did not disturb because the competition as it prepared in advance, gradually. Insyaallah, it is manageable, “he concluded. (*)
