UNAIR American Corner Invites Student from Jordan to Share Culture

UNAIR NEWS – American Corner in Library of Universitas Airlangga held a Cross Culture Understanding event on Wednesday, March 20 2019. In the gathering event, there was Batool Amaideh, a Jordanian student who studying Master at Faculty of Medicine, UNAIR.

This program discussed about the culture differences between two countries, Indonesia and Jordan. In a group discussion, students conducted question and answer session with Batool.

“Thus, this event was made for us to exchange cultural information. Batool get to learn more about our culture, and we gain new information about Jordanian culture.” said Shadila, one of American Corner volunteers.

Batool Amaideh was really excited when she shared her culture. According to her, there were interesting things in Jordan that cannot be found in Indonesia, and vice versa.

In addition, Batool also does not hesitate to share her experience in Indonesia. Batool revealed that she was impressed with the friendly attitude of Indonesian people.

Although she had experienced several obstacles at the beginning, Batool felt that she could adapt well. Batool enjoyed various facilities at Universitas Airlangga, including the library.

“Batool often comes to the library and from that we asked Batool to attend this event to share together.”explained Shadila.

In addition, American Corner wanted to hold a similar event with other international student. Thus, UNAIR students can learn more about other culture.

“In addition, through this event we can also improve our English language skills. By participating in discussions like this, we can train ourselves to speak directly with foreigners, ” said Christopher, who is also a volunteer at American Corner.

Furthermore, American Corner volunteers also invited other UNAIR students to attend the next Cross Culture Understanding event. Especially for students who are truly interested in culture and want to improve their English skills.

“We wait for your participation in the next CCU. Hopefully by joining this event, it can give you new information and increase your English skills.” Shadila concluded. (*)
