UNAIR NEWS – Four books published by Universitas Airlangga got the opportunity to be exhibited at London Book Fair from Tuesday, March 12 to Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Olympia London, Hammersmith Road, Kensington, London W14 8UX.

UNAIR publishes books through Airlangga University Press (AUP), both for academics and for the public. They are books on health, education and social issues. For the first time, AUP sent its books in a book fair in England.

Involvement of UNAIR through AUP in international event was not the first time. Previously, UNAIR through AUP also sent its books to the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2018.

In 2019, UNAIR had the opportunity to showcase its best books for international events. The four English-language books published by AUP were displayed at the largest annual book fair in London, England, 2019 London Book Fair.

The four books are International Journalism & Its Problem of Ethics by Sirkit Syah; Wawan’s Petronage Driven DemocracyDecentralization and Cluster of Industry Policy in Indonesia by Kacung Marijan; and Atlas of The Skin And Veneral Disease by Dwi Murtiastutik, Evy Ervianti, Indropo, and Sunarso Suyoto.

Head of AUP Drs Aribowo MS confirmed the news. The most important is how the works of people or academics can be read by global community. At the same time, it can improve UNAIR webometrics.

“So, if the works of academics of UNAIR, are referred to, used by foreigners, international academics, it will improve UNAIR webometrics. This is for academic excellence. This is very important, “he said.

Therefore, said Drs Aribowo, it is necessary to publish books in English. UNAIR through AUP is heading towards it, increasing the number of books published in English.

Related to the background of the involvement and collaboration, Drs. Aribowo said that every year there are international book exhibitions. There are two big publishing institutions in Indonesia. First, APPI (Association of Indonesian University Publishers), and IKAPI (Indonesian Publishers Association). Both of them work together to participate in national and international exhibitions.

“Well related to the exhibition in London, APPI was involved in the exhibition,” he said.

Therefore, the university publishers that produces English-language books is involved. This time the opportunity to take part in the London Book Fair was given to UNAIR through AUP and UGM Press.

“AUP is one of the largest university publishers in Indonesia,” he said.

Drs. Aribowo added, about the exhibition, there were results obtained such as some foreign publishers who are interested in exploring for possible cooperation with AUP in the future. One of them came from Malaysia.

“So, there are publishers from Malaysia who want to publish their works from UNAIR,” he said.

In addition, the opportunity to be involved in international book exhibition provides knowledge and it shows that UNAIR has published academic and general books in English. In the end, the books can also be used as references for international scientists.

“In the future AUP also focuses on establishing cooperation with a number of publishers abroad. The focus will be on European and Australian regions, “he said. (*)
