Retno Discovers Managing Technostress

UNAIR NEWS – “The biggest obstacle in my opinion is myself, whatever it is,” said Retno Pusalia shared her struggle during her studies. The student from Banyuwangi succeeded in finishing his master’s study with title of the best graduate master Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga. Retno finished her studies with GPA of 3.91.

In her final assignment, Retno made a thesis with Coping Strategy on Technostress for IT Employees. The topic of technostress is due to technologies such as ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies).

“Technostress is simply a stress felt by individuals because of technology, especially computer technology,” he explained.

The Science Management Student added, currently almost all companies uses ICTs in the aspects of their business processes. Especially company IT professionals. IT professionals in their daily lives and tend to be indicated to experience technostress.

Based on his research, Retno found two strategies carried out by IT professionals in overcoming technostress. Dhe focused on managing behavior and motions.

“Actually the classification to overcome technostress depends on the source: techno uncertainty, techno-complexity, non-overload, and techno invasion,” he added.

In managing behavior, Retno continued, they will tend to do things that can change or minimize technostress. While focusing on emotions, they tend to accept it and assume that the problem will be resolved by itself.

Retno said, there are things that must be considered in taking S2 studies, strengthening our motivation to complete every thing that we planned before. Thus, the plan can be realized in real life.

Retno admitted that many things were obtained during college. Not only related to academics but also for life which ultimately made her to say that the best motivation came from herself.

“All achievements or despair that have been traversed will eventually become the past, feeling happy, disappointed are part of our lives story, ” he concluded. (*)
