UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga held another running event, namely AIRun: Aesculap Inspire to Run on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Unlike the previous year, this time, the event was organized with new nuances that were expected to be sustainable for the following years.

“AIRun itself is the first. Last year, it was held at night, Frightmare Run. For now, we plan to organize a run which can be used continuously for the opening of Dean Cup, “said Andi M. Rahul, deputy coordinator of Event division.

Every year, UNAIR FK Dean Cup always presents different themes for the running event. It is not far from health education. In 2018, the theme was Mental Health. This year is Drug Abuse: Alternating Euphoria. It was chosen to educate the public regarding drug abuse by teenagers who are gaining serious attention.

In the event, participants did not only take part in running events. They were invited to know the effects of drug abuse and how to avoid it. The route was 6K, stretched from Campus A, Campus B, PDAM, Hanamasa, Grand City, High School Complex, Aiola Eatery, Grand City, and ended at Campus A. Along the route, Dean Cup committee also deployed a number of personnel and provided facilities such as medical posts and water stations.

“There are four posts. The first was at Campus B, there are talents that demonstrate euphoria. The second was around Gubeng Station, showing paranoid. The third one was in Aiola which illustrates delusional and the fourth one was in front of the FKG which demonstrates the state of dying, “explained Rahul.

After running, the participants can take pictures in a photo booth, enjoy bazaars and various performances such as dance, band, and flashmob from FK UNAIR students. The committee also provided health checks in collaboration with several departments in Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Faculty of Vocational Studies’ traditional medicine and some sponsors. There was also a charity project in partnership with Indonesian Cancer Children Love Foundation (YKAKI).

The participants were very enthusiastic in participating. Appreciation came from one of the participants, Mursalim Alim who also won the first place.

“Positive activity. Bringing young people into healthy life. If possible, it is held every year so I can meet runners in East Java. The route should be clearer and snack should be provided at the finish line, at least fruit and if possible the shirt should be better,” he said. (*)
