UNAIR NEWS – As a higher education institution, Universitas Airlangga has three main tasks as stated in Higher Education Tri Dharma, education, research, and community service.
To strengthen these roles, UNAIR is improving the publication of research, analysis of academics, especially the ideas and views from experts and researchers at UNAIR. The reinforcement is intended to develop people’s knowledge and solve problems in society.
UNAIR collaborates with one of the largest printed media in Indonesia, Jawa Pos to realize this. The results of research and analysis by UNAIR experts and experts will be published through printed media.
Abdul Rokhim, editor of Jawa Pos, and Dio, Head of Jawa Pos Metropolis section, met UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak., CMA. Friday afternoon on 4th floor, Management Office Building, Campus C UNAIR. On that occasion, some current issues, especially regarding fake news or hoax and community problems were discussed.
Rokhim said, the distribution of hoax is becoming more massive. Therefore, collaboration and joint efforts are needed to overcome the problem. One of them is by cooperating with universities as scientific sources and scientific confirmation.
“Basically, the media also has educational function. And, the information that is disseminated must also contain good elements of accuracy. Hoax distribution is one of the problems that must be faced together, “he said.
“And, I think the campus communities or universities has that function as they are the center of science and scientific analysis, “he added.
In line with this statement, Prof. Nasih welcomed the cooperation. The issue of disruption era in society and life is currently converging on human capital problem. According to Prof. Nasih, the key to facing these challenges is the readiness from human resources.
Media, said Prof Nasih, has important role to publish research and analysis from campus academics, UNAIR. It is also an effort to support the function of education for the community which is already done through academic activities in lecture halls.
“This is also in line with UNAIR’s efforts to make programs to improve its quality. The first step that must be addressed is the human capital, by continuously upgrade themselves, “he said.
“One of them is by providing the widest opportunity for academics to explore ideas and views,” he added.
Meanwhile, Head of UNAIR Center for Information and Public Relations (PIH) who was also present in the meeting said that the existence of universities to provide solution to problems in community is mandatory. As there are more diverse problems occuring nowadays.
Regarding this cooperation, Dr. Suko said that PIH is in charge of coordinating the collaboration in the future. It will realize the improvement of publication on research and analysis from lecturers and students as a form of responsibility to the community.
“In the near future, there will be a workshop for writing popular scientific articles. This (training, ed) will be filled by instructors from Jawa Pos editor, columnist, and senior authors from UNAIR. It will be focused on all academics, UNAIR lecturers and researchers, “he said. (*)
