UNAIR NEWS – A campus or university is a place for students to develop and advance. It is well utilized by Rakian Rizky Dermawan, one of the Aquaculture students of PSDKU Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi.

For him, being a student and just study in class is a mistake. A student has freedom for life, such as freedom to work, freedom to make achievements, and freedom to serve.

Even though he is currently serving as Head of Public Relations Department, Aquaculture Student Association (HIMAKUA) and a teaching assistant (practicum, ed), this does not prevent Rakian from making achievements even in the external scope of campus.

“Alhamdulillah, I have a passion in public speaking and modeling, so I use my passion for my program and Banyuwangi,” said the second child of three siblings.

On Sunday, March 10 at Lippo Plaza Jember, Rakian was officially crowned as 2 nd Runner Up in 2019 Mister East Java contest. It was an event of Paguyuban Jatim Winner to find the best male talent in East Java personal branding and public speaking, targeting East Java best male aged 20-35 years.

“I am very grateful to all those who have supported me in representing Banyuwangi regency in 2019 Mister East Java event,” he added.

The event was also a competition on how to socialize, how to promote East Java, how to do interview, and modelling.

“Even before the grand final night on 10th yesterday, the participants were quarantined for 3 days at Citizenship and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Jember office, which aims to shape the character and seek candidates,” he explained.

He was named 2 nd Runner Up so Rakian was entitled to proceed to a higher level arena, Mister Indonesia, with First Winner and 1 st Runner Up .

“Hopefully in the future I will still have the opportunity to continue to Mister Indonesia event. And I hope I can make Universitas Airlangga and Banyuwangi regency proud, “he said.

Although he was busy as student, it was not an excuse for him to stop making achievements. According to him, the 2019 East Java Mister which was held for 5 days did not interfere with his studies.

“It depends on each of us, be smart in managing the schedule. If there is a class assignment, we should finish the assignment first, I also brought my report and I did it at the quarantine site yesterday,” he concluded.
