UNAIR NEWS – 2017 was the first year for Universitas Airlangga to achieve Green Campus category based on Green Metric ranking. Previously, UNAIR was ranked as 350th best in the world, and then rose to rank 300 until it was last ranked 280th in the world. UNAIR is committed to continuously improving its rank.
As a real effort, UNAIR held UKM (Student Activity Unit) Fun Bike event. Attended by Director of Facilities and Infrastructure, Karnaji, S.Sos., M.Si., and Director of Student Affairs, Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH., MH., CN.,. The activity was held on Friday, March 1, 2019.
Karnaji said that the activity was attended by all UKM in UNAIR. The fun bike was started from campus B to campus A and the finish line was at campus C UNAIR. Not only cycling, the participants were also invited to have breakfast together. There was also prizes, 5 bikes, 2 small refrigerators, 1 laptop, and prizes for the best photo contest winners.
“Fun Bike was chosen because one of the Green Metric assessment criteria is air pollution,” he added.
In addition to accelerate rank’s improvement, Karnaji continued, the activity was also a step to promote sports for UNAIR academics and introduce the new UNAIR facilities, Campus Bikes. According to Karnaji, the best exercise are swimming and cycling. Because both sports are quite affordable in terms of costs and accommodation.
“By cycling, we achieve a lot from at the same time. You can study, your body is healthy, and you can save,” he added.
Karnaji said that the bike facilities would reduce air pollution especially in UNAIR and could also increase UNAIR’s rank in Green Metric ranking. Moreover, since the establishment of bicycle facilities, students who live in dormitories do not have to use motorbikes often.
“As a student, don’t be spoiled. If you want to use a motorcycle, it’s better when you can already buy your own motorcycle,” he added.
Karnaji revealed that the activity was expected to reduce air pollution in Airlangga University environment. In addition, from an economic standpoint, students are also supported by the bicycle facilities.
“I hope when they apply for a job, there will be no more students who encounter obstacles due to health problems,” he concluded.
