UNAIR NEWS – “There should be no obstacles that limit a person to get education, ” explained Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH, MH, CN., in a talk show about scholarship and Bidikmisi at Airlangga Education Expo (AEE) 2019. The director of student affairs explained the difference between regular scholarships and bidikmisi.

This scholarship is related to achievement, although some of them require disability and some others do not, so all students have the opportunity to get scholarships. Examples of scholarships that only require achievements are the Djarum Scholarship, Bank Indonesia Scholarship, and Tahfiz Qur’an Scholarship with 5 juz minimum requirement.

While Bidikmisi or Education Aid for Poor and Outstanding Students is intended for students with financial disability who can be accepted at state universities without looking at their academic achievements.

“In UNAIR as of 2018, in total about 7,000 students receive scholarships. Four thousand of them are bidikmisi, 1.5 thousand are from PPA, and the rest are scholarships from the private sector or other institutions, “explained Hadi.

The high bidikmisi recipients in UNAIR because every year UNAIR has a quota of one thousand people. Hadi also clarified that there was a misperception that said prospective Bidikmisi students who registered in UNAIR would run out of quota. The fact is the opposite, from last few years, only 2016 reached the allocated quota.

“It is not true if you apply for Bidikmisi you will not be able to be admitted in UNAIR,” said Hadi.

In the talk show, Hadi told the audience, once a mother and child came to UNAIR, their children were accepted but they could not pay and did not register for Bidikmisi, the reason was they did not know the information. There was also a story of students who do not claim Bidikmisi even though they met the conditions because it is embarrassing.

Hadi encouraged the participants of AEE 2019 not to feel reluctance in applying for Bidikmisi scholarship because what needed is only the determination to study and complete their studies in 8 semesters.

“You must be proud to get Bidikmisi. Do not let negative stigma discouraged you and register immediately through SNMPTN and SBMPTN, “said Hadi.
