UNAIR NEWS – In the midst of the festivities for 2019 Airlangga Education Expo (AEE) commemoration, Universitas Airlangga with Kompas TV held Talkshow Festival Muda Memilih. The event which was also held at Airlangga Convention Center (ACC) Campus C UNAIR on Friday, February 15 attended by hundreds of youths. Both from UNAIR students and other students from various universities in Surabaya.
Presented at Talkshow Festival Muda Memilih, Head of Central Election Commission (KPU) Arif Budiman. In his presentation, Arif who is also UNAIR alumnus explained that youth have an important role in this year’s election. Besides having a large number of people, youth or called millennial generations also maintaining this upcoming elections to be transparent, integrated, and high quality.
“Millennial generation determines upcoming elections to be transparent and integrated. If these two things can be realized, there will be a high quality election, “he said.
Meanwhile, from academics, Dr. Suko Widodo, M.Si., UNAIR Political Communication Expert said that millenial role are needed. Because, continued Suko, millennial involvement will changing, opening more access, and determining country direction in the future.
“For this reason, I hope that these young people can use their common sense. You are all (millennial, ed) must have positive critical thinking, “explained Suko.
On the same occasion, Budiman Tanurejo as Head of Kompas Daily emphasized this election was the first moment in Indonesia’s democratic history involving millennial generation around 80 million people.
“This huge amount of people certainly are not something that can be underestimated.” It showed that the active role of millennial generation in elections will greatly determine this country’s direction in policy” he explained. “Therefore, let young generation who are active in social media participating in this democratic celebration process,” he concluded.
