UNAIR NEWS – To commemorate National Press Day (HPN) on Feb. 9, TVRI in collaboration with Universitas Airlangga held a talk show. The talk show was attended by hundreds of students and lecturers on Thursday Feb. 7, at Garuda Mukti Hall, Campus C UNAIR Management Office.

The interactive talk show discussed the role of media in developing the economy through Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). UNAIR Rector welcomed a media, in this case TVRI, as a public-owned media that has the responsibility of educating society, especially on UMKM.

It presented three speakers, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih, Head of Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Yuliandre Darwis, and lecturer and media observer Dr. Yayan Sakti Suryandaru.

On that occasion UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih started the discussion on television as the largest educational media in Indonesia. According to him, television is the most powerful media because it can affect millions of people every day.

“TV has a very big role. It is capital for UMKM, capital for higher education, capital for business undertaken by students. We hope that TVRI can be a student’s partner to introduce its products, “explained UNAIR Rector.

“Because there are hundreds of students’ products who have a role in solving problems in society, both in terms of education, health, technology, and so on,” he added.

Yuliandre Darwis revealed some of his opinions regarding the condition of media in Indonesia today. It is said that currently KPI oversees 1500 radios, 300 pay television, and 800 local TV broadcasting. According to him, one of the functions of the media is in the sector of economy and culture, including UMKM, and it is currently untouched.

“We see a lot of media that are rather quiet in terms of education about UMKM. What emerges is commercial or advertising, “he said.

Andre said that currently there are no resources that accommodate local programs. Even though what is important is continuity of the program. Andre is waiting for the works of young people to package college products well.

“It could be that later the lecturers or students from UNAIR will take part in compiling the program. But it must be packed contemporarily, so that it can be accepted by today’s society, “he said.

While Yayan Sakti observes TVRI as one of the television stations that has the potential to publish works by academics to the general public.

“Something will be interesting when it’s unique, original. UMKM must come up with something unique,” said Yayan.

Yayan advised that it became a challenge for TVRI to be a media that accommodated community products.

“Public broadcasting institution must provide opportunities. People do not need to pay to advertise via social media. But through mainstream media, they pay. This is a challenge, “he explained.

He also advised both parties, UNAIR and TVRI, to make a declaration of commitment to open slots for UMKM shows, especially for UNAIR students.

On that occasion, Dr. Tri Siwi Agustina., S.E., M.Si Siwi as a staff from PPKK revealed that in one year there are 300 entrepreneurial students in UNAIR. Its growth reaches 10-15% per year. It shows potential for television stations to introduce UMKM in Indonesia. (*)
