UNAIR NEWS – International movement of Universitas Airlangga towards 500 world class universities continues. This time, 30 UNAIR students consists various majors participated in leadership development program at Management Science University, Shah Alam Malaysia which held from January 20-22, 2019. During the event, a lot of UNAIR students were facilitated by MSU students who are members of MSU SCD (Management Science University – Student Career Development).

MSU SCD itself is a form of BEM (Student Executive Board) or DPM (Student Representative Council) like those in Indonesia. In several campuses in Malaysia, besides the term SCD, there is also MPP or Student Consultative Assembly whose functions are almost the same.

SCD MSU has a structure similar to campus organizational structure in Indonesia. Starting from developing talent interests, advocating student needs and academic discussions between majors on campus. SCD members at MSU are usually referred as facilitators. It can be seen from each costume they wear every time they accompany Universitas Airlangga students. The facilitator according to one member of MSU SCD is a bridge that connected campus management policies to the needs or interests of students.

At MSU, UNAIR students received a lot of new lesson including the role of campus and industry on 21st century. According to Dato Rusli Yusof on the occasion said that nowadays humans cannot deny the presence of industry is quite helpful in physical development of campus as well as forging the best human resources. In his presentation, he also mentioned that in the future students would not be confused after graduating because they got entrepreneurship character at MSU.

“This character is also continuously adapted by SCD in developing patterns of independence in the activities they hold,” he said.

The leadership development program initiated by Airlangga Global Enggament (AGE) in projecting UNAIR as the 500 World Class University, goes hand in hand with the vision towards Top Global University that MSU is currently working on.

“So, the collaboration of universities in international scale is one of stepping stone to jointly reach global scale universities,” concluded MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato ‘Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.
